At over 40, with years of experience as a first responder, I've learned that our bodies change, and our energy levels fluctuate. But that doesn't mean we have to accept a sedentary lifestyle.

This week, I’m sharing the mindset shift that helped me and my clients stay consistent even on the busiest days.

Let's be real, folks. Being a dad of seven ain't no joke. Between band performances, soccer practice, and the never-ending cycle of "I'm hungry," it's easy to let your fitness goals slip through the cracks. I used to be that guy - the one with the dad bod and the excuses. But then I had a mindset shift that changed everything.

Instead of viewing exercise as a chore, I started seeing it as a necessity. It wasn't about getting ripped or impressing anyone; it was about staying healthy for my family. When I realized that hitting the gym wasn't just for me, but for them, it made all the difference.

Here's the thing: you don't need hours to make a difference. Even 15 minutes of intense exercise can do wonders. I started with short, high-intensity workouts at home. No fancy equipment, just bodyweight exercises and a bit of determination. As I got stronger, I gradually increased the duration and intensity.

Remember, consistency is key. Don't beat yourself up if you miss a day or two. Just get back on track as soon as you can. And most importantly, find something you enjoy. If you hate running, don't force yourself to do it. Try dancing, swimming, or playing a sport. The key is to make it fun and sustainable.

So, fellow dads (and moms), let's ditch the excuses and embrace a healthier lifestyle. Your family deserves it.
